The Historic Amsterdam League is pleased to offer Amsterdam Icons 2017, the sixth in a series of annual calendars from HAL. Amsterdam Icons 2017 is a color and classic B&W 12 month wall size (11″ x 17″) calendar featuring monthly illustrations depicting Amsterdam’s grand homes of the past. The images selected to appear on the 2017 HAL calendar are iconic in their representation of Amsterdam, paying tribute to the estates and mansions which lined her avenues and boulevards at a time when it was said that our city had more millionaires per capita than any other in the country. Many of Amsterdam’s magnificent old homes are long gone, but many others still remain, a tangible part of our history and heritage. Some have been lovingly preserved, others… Accompanying each month’s picture is a brief paragraph providing relevant information and historical facts; the two-page centerfold contains additional photos of historic Amsterdam homes. Scattered throughout the monthly date listings, in addition to the usual holidays and observances, are important, entertaining, and often little known dates from local history – Amsterdam’s “Bridge Day”, the death of Stephen Sanford, our Benedict Arnold’s birthday…
